HOSPITALS, NO INTERPRETERS...

WHAT TO DO??

There is Illinois law called Language Assistance Services Act (LASA).

 If the hospitals do not provide effective communication (interpreters), they could lose their licenses.  The law also says that these hospitals must have signs Interpreter Request posed.

If they do not provide or refuse to get interpeting services, you can file a complant by contacting Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

When you call or write, be sure to provide the name of the hosptial, address, and explanation.  The IDPH will mail a letter to you that they will investigate that hospital.

For more information, or to file a complaint, contact the IDPH: 1-800-252-4343 V; 1-800-547-0466 TTY; dph.ccr@illinois.gov;
